Control Room Systems Integration
TDM designs, integrates and supports control room solutions for critical infrastructure environments. We bring display systems, source management, operational communications, CCTV, Help Point connectivity, and the network infrastructure beneath them together into one accountable operational environment, so operators can see, hear, control and respond from a single place.

Control Room Solutions

One Operational Environment, Not a Collection of Screens
A control room is the operational layer where the systems an organisation depends on are unified into one place. Rather than a standalone screen installation, an effective control room solution brings visual information, communications, CCTV, operational data, and response tools into a single environment. Because operators need to see what is happening, communicate clearly, and respond quickly, the value lies in how well those systems work together rather than in any single piece of hardware.
This is where TDM’s approach differs from that of a display supplier. We are a systems integrator, not a screen reseller. As a result, we take responsibility for the visualisation layer, source control, operational communications, network infrastructure, and ongoing support as one coordinated solution. The control room becomes the place where TDM’s existing capabilities converge, rather than a separate product line bolted on at the end.
TDM already delivers the systems that feed into a control room, including CCTV, Help Points, information displays, operational communications, and network infrastructure. Consequently, our control room solutions are a natural extension of more than 25 years of integration experience in critical environments. We design the room around the systems that will run in it, and we stand behind the whole solution rather than just the screens on the wall.
What we deliver
End-to-End Integration, Every Layer
TDM manages every layer of a control room solution, from the display systems operators look at to the network infrastructure beneath the floor. Because we integrate the whole environment in-house, our customers have a single accountable partner across the display layer, the communications layer, the network layer, and long-term support.
Design and integration of control room display environments, including video wall specification and deployment. We bring multiple systems onto one visual platform so operators view and act on critical information from a single environment rather than switching between fragmented systems.
Source management integration that lets operators pull in different feeds, arrange them across the video wall or operator positions, and switch between layouts depending on the situation. This is particularly valuable during incident response, major events, network disruption, and estate-wide operational oversight.
Integration of operator workstations and positions so each operator has access to the right systems, feeds, and controls. Layouts and source access can be configured around operational roles and the way the team actually works.
Design and installation of the LAN network and supporting infrastructure that allows the control room platform, video wall, encoders, decoders, operator positions, and source systems to work together. This is an important differentiator. TDM is not only involved in the visible front end of the control room. We also provide the infrastructure that allows the room to operate reliably.
Support for control room projects where the existing video management system is outdated or no longer fit for purpose. This includes upgrading legacy VMS hardware and hosting methods to current hardware and software, improving reliability, security, and long-term supportability across the CCTV estate.
Integration of operational communications through NIS, the Network Information System. TDM configures, commissions, and maintains NIS-based operational communications as part of control room and wider communications deployments. NIS supports dispatcher functionality including role-based working, dispatcher terminals, profile management, and the ability for operators to work flexibly from different terminals.
NIS, the Network Information System, is a fully IP-based operational telecommunications and security platform used in transport and critical communication environments. TDM delivers, configures, commissions, and maintains NIS-based systems as part of Help Point, control room, and wider communications deployments. The technology has a historic and ongoing relationship with Telematix, and TDM is the delivery and integration partner behind its use in UK rail and critical infrastructure projects.

Why TDM
What Sets TDM Apart
TDM’s value is not in supplying screens. It is in making different systems work together as one operational environment. We take responsibility for the display layer, the communications layer, the network layer, and long-term support, so the room works as a whole rather than as a collection of separately procured parts.
TDM already delivers CCTV, Help Points, CIS, Public Address, operational communications, NIS, and network infrastructure. Because we understand these systems from the inside, we integrate them into a control room environment with far less risk than an integrator meeting them for the first time on site.
TDM can provide a single accountable partner across the display layer, the communications layer, the network layer, and long-term support. Consequently, there is no gap between the systems and the infrastructure beneath them, and no fragmentation of responsibility when something needs attention.
TDM designs and installs the LAN infrastructure beneath the control room and delivers the operational communications layer through NIS. As a result, we understand the full stack the room depends on, not just the visible front end.
TDM understands live operational environments where downtime, fragmented systems, and poor integration create real operational risk. With more than 25 years of experience in critical communications and infrastructure, we approach control rooms with the discipline those environments demand.
Where we work
Control room solutions are deployed wherever operators need fast, reliable access to critical information. TDM’s strongest proven experience is in rail security and operations centres, and the same integration approach applies across a range of critical infrastructure environments.
Security operations centres bringing CCTV, live train data, and operational information together on a single platform. This is TDM’s strongest proven control room environment, demonstrated by the Great Western Railway Security Operations Centre in Swindon.
Operational control environments where transport operators monitor services, manage incidents, and coordinate response across a network. TDM’s experience across CCTV, CIS, Help Points, and operational communications applies directly to these environments.
Civic and public safety control rooms requiring integrated visual information, communications, and response coordination. The integration approach TDM applies in rail is applicable to these environments.
Operational control environments in utilities and energy where reliability and situational awareness are critical. TDM’s network and communications integration capability is applicable to these settings.
Industrial operations centres requiring consolidated monitoring and control across large operational footprints. TDM’s integration approach brings fragmented systems into one operational view.
Wider critical infrastructure environments where operators depend on integrated systems to maintain safety, security, and operational continuity.
Our Five-Stage Delivery Process
Every control room project follows TDM’s five-stage delivery framework. Whether we are building a new control room or modernising an existing one, the same rigour applies at each stage. This is because a control room integrates many systems at once, and thorough preparation is what makes that integration reliable.
We assess the operational requirements, the systems that need to feed into the room, the existing infrastructure, and the way operators work before any design begins.
Full design of the display environment, source management, operator positions, network infrastructure, and communications integration, with documentation tailored to the operational environment.
Managed installation and integration by TDM, coordinated around live operations to minimise disruption. Display systems, network infrastructure, source control, and communications are brought together into one environment.
Full testing and sign-off of the integrated environment, including display layouts, source switching, operator positions, network performance, and communications. Pre-defined compositions for key operational scenarios configured where required.
Full documentation at handover, with planned maintenance, reactive support, and lifecycle management available to keep the control room performing reliably throughout its operational life.
Proven in the Field
TDM’s control room capability builds on its long-standing experience in communications, CCTV, Help Points, NIS, network infrastructure, and control centre integration. The strongest recent example is the Great Western Railway Security Operations Centre in Swindon. You can also view our other case studies to see the full breadth of TDM’s project delivery.

TDM acted as systems integrator for Great Western Railway’s new Security Operations Centre in Swindon, replacing the previous CCTV suite with a purpose-built control room. The project brought CCTV, live train data, operational data, and information together on a single platform. TDM’s scope covered system integration, network infrastructure, video wall installation, and a VMS upgrade. Barco was the technology partner, while TDM was the integrator, delivery lead, and accountable partner behind the room.
